In theatre various production elements are used to create the world of the play. In the workshop you will look at ‘how to’ do sound, lighting and audio visual.
In the workshop you will examine the relationship between Director and Designer and how using various elements assist in creating ‘the word’ of the play. You will look at both stage and lighting design.

The Strangeways Ensemble is Merrigong’s permanent company of professional actors with a disability, and Wollongong’s only professional theatre ensemble. Over two weekends in January and April 2024 ensemble members are coming to Bathurst with guest artists to run fun, original workshops in performance for young people aged 12-24 with a disability!
For 20 minutes (the average time it takes to mow a lawn) we encourage everyone across the Bathurst regional with a lawn and a mower to start it up and mow. We want to create a sea of sound, a sound of summer everyone knows - the rasp of lawnmowers!

Eishan Ensemble are an Australian world/jazz band. Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar player and composer, Hamed Sadeghi, the ARIA nominated ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both east and west. Eishan’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions with diverse improvisatory idioms featured powerfully. Variously described as Persian Chamber Jazz and Middle Eastern Jazz fusion, Eishan defies neat labels.
Larissa Burak’s exceptional soprano voice, combined with the gentle sounds of the traditional Ukrainian national instrument the bandura (similar to a lute), has thrilled audiences as geographically distant as her native Ukraine, Western Europe and around Australia. Our Sounds of the World concert series kicks off on Sunday with a fascinating collaboration between two music traditions with two musicians, Peter Knight on trumpet, electronics and voice, and Dung Nguyen on dan tranh, dan bau, and moon lute. For Residual the pair develop unique approaches to combining Vietnamese and Western music elements in a contemporary setting employing innovative extended techniques applied to traditional Vietnamese instruments and trumpet along with spontaneous electro-acoustic composition.
Composer and pianist Amanda Handel is joined by Michael Jackson on didjeridus and didjeribone for a contemporary classical program conjuring landscapes and other natural features of the Blue Mountains. Rich musical sonorities evoke the diversity of colour and texture found in the Gardens of Stone National Park. The multi-sectional structure and forward momentum of the music take the listener on a journey through this unique landscape of pagoda shaped rock forms. The music conjures the majestic views and the intricate details on the rock surfaces.

Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar virtuoso and composer, Hamed Sadeghi, the ARIA nominated Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both East and West. Eishan’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions with diverse improvisatory idioms featured powerfully. Eishan Ensemble returns to BMEC and will also perform at Lithgow's Union Theatre. BMEC is selling tickets to both events.

The Body as Nature is an intimate workshop for dancers/dance schools offering a rare chance to experience choreographic methodologies from Wayfinder. Beginning with priming mechanisms that ignite our sensorial awareness and expand our capacity for connectivity, together we will explore a complex improvised structure from Wayfinder that is bound by rigorous parameters and decision making involving kinaesthetic, aural, energetic and intuitive intelligences.
Embark on fun and engaging tasks learning clever patterns and systems that give brain twisting parameters to guide the creation of rhythm hitting dance. You are invited to engage with colorful finger knitting strands created by local community that feature in Wayfinder. These kinetic extensions of movement allow for wild and unruly tactile feedback. Led by Dancenorth's spectacular Wayfinder cast, this exuberant workshop is a sure-fire way to engage young hearts, minds and bodies.
Dancenorth continues its push into innovative production design with a custom inflatable stage empowering dancers with extra rotational abilities in mid-air; kaleidoscope patchwork costumes; and over 70km of salvaged wool that has been wrangled into towering textile creations by over 150 volunteer finger-knitters. Meanwhile, more than 100 luminous “pearls” designed in collaboration with the Japanese-born artist Hiromi Tango are beacons around which the dancers orient their cyclonic rainbow.

Ama and Nana is a new Australian play by Disapol Savetsila (Sydney Theatre Company), written in and about regional NSW. Two older women who live in Bathurst have been side-lined by their families and by society. Nana has thrown herself behind a conservative populist movement that threatens to take over the town.

Joining Bernheim is American soprano Erin Morley as Olympia, South African soprano Pretty Yende as Antonia, and French mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine as Giulietta to complete Hoffmann’s trio of lovers. Marco Armiliato conducts Bartlett Sher’s evocative production, which also features American bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as the Four Villains and Russian mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in her company debut as Nicklausse. It’s an intoxicating mix of emotion and dazzling music, including the famous, fiendishly difficult Doll Song.
