We invite you to join us for a very special performance on top of Wahluu with the sounds of two Swiss Alphorns sending out a sea of sound to the town below. Joining them will be a choir of enthusiastic locals under the direction of well-known musicians Smith & Jones. Featuring new commissioned work and a choral arrangement of Dolly Parton’s The Light of a Clear Blue Morning, we welcome the sunrise for the final day of our festival. No need to book, just turn up a few minutes before for this very special event.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Community members are invited to sign up to be part of this event through the website. The ability to read music is helpful but not essential. Individual learning as well as rehearsals will take place in the weeks leading up to the event.

How It Works

Thank you so much for showing interest in being a part of the Bathurst Sea of Sound Choir project, composed by Abby Smith (Smith & Jones).

Please complete the entry form to let us know you are planning on being involved. We aren’t signing you up to any marketing – purely for any communication about the project and your participation.

To the right (or below on a mobile) you will find each of the four songs to be performed. This includes the following:

  • Mp3s (midi parts) – the separate soprano, alto, tenor, bass parts for each. Please keep in mind these are in midi, which means they have been created digitally rather than sung live, so they don’t contain lyrics, but they have the correct pitch and rhythms, so we would encourage you to listen and sing along to these along with the score to learn the music.
  • Scores/sheet music for each song. In each song you will find either a full score with all the parts together, and then also separate scores for each part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) individually OR just the full score with all the parts together. Don’t over think the parts. For example, if you’re typically a soprano but the alto part looks and feels more comfortable, just pick the part that most suits your voice. Also feel free to swap parts for each song if that is more comfortable eg. you might want to sing the tenor for Dawn but the Bass for Twilight – that’s fine!

There will be 3 rehearsals at BMEC in the week leading up to the performance on January 21. You can come to all of them or even just 1 or 2 – whatever you can manage. The dates are:

  • Sunday 14 January at 2pm til 4pm
  • Tuesday 16 January at 6pm til 7:30pm
  • Thursday 18 January at 6pm til 7:30pm

This performance relies on as much prep as possible, so please take some time to learn parts in your own time and come to rehearsal as prepared as possible. Our time during these rehearsals will be limited so it’s essential you have had a look over the songs and have an idea of your part before coming along so we can just jump straight in.

Any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Sophie and Abby at contact.smithandjones@gmail.com
