Relive the uniquely Australian pandemic experience through the eyes of these uniquely Australian characters hilariously parodied by Art Simone (RuPaul’s Drag Race Downunder, Have You Been Paying Attention?), Thomas Jaspers (Granny Bingo, The Gays Are Revolting), Leasa Mann (Club Broadway, Thank Mollie’s It’s Friday) and Scott Brennan (skitHOUSE, Comedy Inc, Neighbours)

This is Offenbach’s last and greatest work is a fantastical opera, starring French tenor Benjamin Bernheim in the title role of the tormented poet. Joining Bernheim is American soprano Erin Morley as Olympia, South African soprano Pretty Yende as Antonia, and French mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine as Giulietta to complete Hoffmann’s trio of lovers. Marco Armiliato conducts Bartlett Sher’s evocative production, which also features American bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as the Four Villains and Russian mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in her company debut as Nicklausse. It’s an intoxicating mix of emotion and dazzling music, including the famous, fiendishly difficult Doll Song.   

History, music and migration come together in Mara! Big Band’s new 60-minute musical suite, Zashto? or Why? in Bulgarian. It is the experience of migration to Australia over each wave of migration in the past 230+ years. Through the stories of three women who arrived in Australia at very different times in our history, we investigate the migration experience of many in our community and we pose the question Zashto?.
