If you have an original idea for a short performance idea, then we are also running a 2-day intensive cabaret workshop designed just for you!
Over two fun and supportive days, we will help you develop your performance ideas. Whether you are interested in stand-up comedy, singing, character work, or a sketch, we will work with you in a safe, affirming, and strengths-based environment to bring your act to life. The workshop is inspired by the theme of love in all its forms so feel free to explore this.
Who is this for?
This workshop is specifically for Bathurst and Orange-based artists with a disability or who are neuro-diverse. Whether you are an emerging artist or just have a great idea you want to try out, we want you in the room!
When is it?
- Wednesday 22 April, 10am – 4pm
- Thursday 23 April, 10am – 4pm
What do I bring?
- An idea for a short cabaret act – the workshop will help you to get it performance ready; OR
- An existing short cabaret act or song ready to go – if so, please bring the sheet music, backing track or other support material for workshopping.
- Your own lunch/snacks and water
The Big Opportunity!
At the end of the workshop, 1-2 acts may be selected to perform live on stage with the Strangeways Ensemble as part of their Strangeways Cabaret lineup at BMEC on Friday 17 July!
Supported by Create NSW Regional Arts Touring and Creative Australia grants.
Please email Kate.Smith@bathurst.nsw.gov.au to register your interest in this opportunity, or call the BMEC Box Office on 6333 6161.

ABOUT THE STRANGEWAYS ENSEMBLE
The Strangeways Ensemble is a permanent company of neuro-diverse actors and musicians based at Merrigong Theatre Company, and Wollongong’s only professional theatre ensemble. We explore universal themes from our unique perspectives and aim to find the fantastical in the mundane. We make works which are evocative and challenging, but also poetic and funny. We like to make people think and laugh.
We have been making and touring original theatre work since 2014. We take our ideas and develop them into shows with our creative team during our weekly Friday sessions and intensive weeklong workshops. It can take us up to three years to make a major new work.
