DIRECTING FOR THE STAGE

During the workshop you will work as both actors and directors – looking at a short scene and the different methods directors may use to help an actor ‘get into’ and discover the character.
Ruby Conolan Barrett is a theatre-maker and director. Training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as well as the University of Melbourne, Ruby’s portfolio consists of devised ensemble pieces, immersive, site-specific works, and classical plays. She has worked in the UK, Zambia and Australia with the Australian Theatre for Young People, Zen Zen Zo Theatre Company, Local Stages Bathurst, and Barefeet Theatre Lusaka, amongst others.
Annabel Scholes trained in Bathurst completing her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Theatre/Media and her Post Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) before going onto complete a MA in Theatre and Film at UNSW and undertake the NIDA Directing Course. She has worked as a lecturer at CSU in the School of Communication and Creative Industries and as a Director and Assistant Director for independent and subsidised theatre companies. Annabel was the Resident Director of Disney’s The Lion King for three years when it first came to Australia. She is now the Creative Producer at BMEC.
