“Milltown” is a 13-minute, heartwarming film that captures local stories from the past. It was produced by Arts OutWest with Henry Simmons for Museums Bathurst.
The 2025 film celebrates the people of the historic Milltown area of South Bathurst and their connection to place and past communities through the lens of the present. The interviews with past Milltown locals are woven with personal film footage and stories of Ben and Elizabeth Chifley to create a beautiful celebration of life along the railways.
The film is also part of the ongoing screenings at the Chifley Home and Education Centre, seen by visitors of all ages, including school groups.
Henry Simmons received The National Trust Heritage Award at the Bathurst Australia Day awards in January for his work on ‘Milltown’ and also the ‘Dhuluny’ (2024) film for WTICWAC.
The film was first screened at Bathurst Rail Museum in 2025 and later at Bathurst Library.
The film, plus extended interviews, can also be seen through the artsoutwest.org.au and museumsbathurst.com.au/chifley/ websites.
