Compareo is BMECs’ inclusive arts program, providing an exciting opportunity for people with disability to explore performance skills. BMEC has partnered with local artist Catherine McNamara, who is a professional theatre performer and writer. Cath has a long history of facilitating performing arts programs for/with people with disabilities, a major highlight being the premiere of her children’s theatre play ViV! in August 2025, where members of Compareo helped prepare, plan and take part in a professional performance.
Compareo delivers a mixed abilities performing arts program for young people living in the Central West. The program consists of weekly group classes in Bathurst. These classes aim to improve confidence, communication, fitness, and team work. Through engagement in a specialised drama program, participants develop their self-expression, creativity and emotional vocabulary.
Perhaps the best part of Compareo is that it provides a safe and encouraging social network for everyone who attends.
The specific design, themes and pace of the program are always participant-led. At times we invite guest artists to run specialised sessions, depending on the interest and feedback from our attendees. All facilitators will provide an empowering environment and achievable goals for each participant. Support workers are encouraged to attend.
Classes are held on Tuesday, onsite at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, 105 William St Bathurst NSW 2795.
