In 2025, Bathurst-based performance company Lingua Franca continues its creative development of their new show The 1999 Bathvillington Eisteddfod Eisteddfod and you have a chance to take part in a studio workshop that will see you explore new skills and help shape the show.

The 1999 Bathvillington Eisteddfod Eisteddfod is an exploration of performing arts competitions in regional towns, using real stories that reveal the highs and lows of what happens on and off stage. Made by a team of dancers, theatre-makers and musicians the show puts the Eisteddfod format itself under evaluation, all while celebrating the importance of participation in performing arts in regional towns.

Coming to BMEC on May 17th, these workshops will explore the team’s approach to making, creating and devising contemporary performance, using their skills across dance, theatre and music. This workshop series will be a chance to learn new ways of creating, devising and writing performance, while also giving you a little taste of what the team has been working on for this show so far.

Suitable for those with some performing arts experience, aged 13+.

Session Times:

Theatre – Writing and Devising 10am – 12pm

Music – Songwriting and Performing 1pm – 3pm

Can’t make the Workshop? We still want to hear from you!

We’re building this show from the stories and experiences of everyone who’s got a tale to tell about Eisteddfods. If you’ve got a story of victory or tragedy, about what it meant to compete, or you’ve helped make them happen as a volunteer, arts worker or presenting venue, we want to know all the details! If you love them or have a love-hate relationship with them, we want to explore the many facets of what an Eisteddfod means to a community.

Please get in touch with us at linguafranca.au@gmail.com or through bmec.boxoffice@bathurst.nsw.gov.au to connect with Lingua Franca artists during their visit.
