In Breath

In Breath

A Poetic Performance for Plants (and their People)

by Alice Blackwood

In Breath is a compost pile of emotion. This is poetry medicine for you and your pot plants. Oxygen as a magic spell that binds us together: bankers, bakers, cuttlefish, nematodes and peace lilies. Bring a plant friend and let this carefully calibrated breeze bring fresh air into the stale corners of your soil and soul.

Weaving together poetry, song, ritual, and gardening, In Breath asks what it could mean to be in conspiracy with plants. Who, then, could we become?

Written and performed on Wiradyuri land.

Bring a plant friend?
Yes, really. Whether it is your treasured heirloom houseplant, a tomato seedling, or a succulent cutting pinched from your neighbours front yard. All photosynthesisers are welcome! Look around you and ask the plants in your life who is in need of an outing.

Will anything bad happen to my plant?
No! We intend no harm to the plants.
