At Ponton Theatre - Charles Sturt University Bathurst
Sam. productions have partnered with White Ribbon Australia to bring Dolores to regional NSW audiences in March 2019.
Sam. productions is an independent production company owned by two sisters; Millie and Edwina Samuels who are country girls born and bred from Dubbo, NSW. ‘Dolores’ is a 45 minute, one act play written by Edward Allan Baker. It is a portrait of two sisters, Sandra and Dolores, who are caught in repeating patterns of domestic abuse and dealing with it in very different ways. The play addresses the difficulties women experience in speaking out as well as the multitude of barriers faced by women in accessing support. Unfortunately DV is very prevalent in all communities and country NSW is no exception.
Sam.productions announced the regional tour after a successful sold out season in Sydney in 2018.
Sydney’s acclaimed Audrey Journal said: “Having Sandra and Dolores played by sibling actors is a rare treat and Edwina and Millie Samuels are very good in their roles, delivering incredibly detailed performances”
The Samuels sisters hope to use the play as a platform to encourage conversation. They will be donating 10% of all ticket sales to White Ribbon Australia and will invite local ambassadors to the performances across the state. The girls also wish to help audiences understand that their unique set of skills can help to effect change in their community whether they work in schools, local businesses, health services or at a government level.
Local Stages is proud to bring Dolores to Bathurst and we acknowledge the support of Charles Sturt University.
