Catapult is the meeting point for metropolitan, regional and remote youth circus practitioners and also the meeting point between
youth circus and adult professional circus and physical theatre.
Catapult plays a vital linking and networking role in a field where participants have previously not been able to meet, share skills and processes or develop national benchmarks and accreditation.
This well loved national festival, launched in 2005, was the first festival in Australia to showcase the skills of young circus and physical theatre artists. Since 2005 Catapult has developed and grown, and each year more youth circus groups from around Australia make the journey to Bathurst to share in this amazing experience.
Catapult's mission is to support an ethos of sharing amongst the youth and professional circus and physical theatre industry and in 2009 the Australian Circus and Physical Theatre Association (ACAPTA) endorsed Catapult as the National Youth Circus and Physical Theatre Festival. Catapult consults with artists, community members and the industry peak body ACAPTA, to ensure this festival delivers programs and projects that are relevant and inspiring to a new generation of artists, while supporting the development and exploration of industry practice, art form development and community cultural development.
Catapult Festival aims to:
- bring young people and professional performers together to create a performance and skill development platform for the growing number of youth circus and physical theatre troupes in Australia.
- bring young people in the region together with professional artists where they will be inspired to continue to build on their skills and self confidence.
- encourage and support the growth of physical theatre and cultural organisations in regional areas.
- encourage and support physical theatre performers by ensuring that workshops and development opportunities are available
